Ambitious plans to re-design Scarborough as an Art Deco oasis were drawn up in the 1930s.

‘A New Olympia: Designs on Scarborough’ explores the fascinating proposals of architect Stanley Davenport Adshead with his plans and photographs of the period.

The exhibition is accompanied by a number of events including a curator’s talk on November 2nd at 2pm entitled ‘Curator’s Choice: A Grand Scheme for Scarborough’ to discuss key works by Stanley Davenport Adshead and learn more about his vision of Scarborough as a glamorous destination for recreation and entertainment.

Also on 4 January 2018 at 10.30am ‘Painting in the New Year: Designs on Scarborough’ is  a spectacular painting workshop for all ages, drawing on ideas in the exhibition.
