Elephants on Regent Street? Tanks in Peel Square? John Crossley is a much loved local photographer, who for the last five years, has been recording the changes and redevelopment of Barnsley & Surrounding Districts. His photos have captured the character and nuances of an ever-changing town.

In this collection, Crossley juxtaposes archival photographs of Barnsley’s yesteryear with those of Barnsley in the present, creating instantly recognisable, yet somewhat otherworldly images of two worlds colliding.

The images have been reproduced with the kind permission of Barnsley Archives and Local Studies.
