New Light celebrates and promotes Northern art by supporting both well-known and emerging artists. The common thread through all the work New Light does is a deep belief that the visual arts matter and the North of England deserves to be celebrated.

The biennial New Light Prize Exhibition is open to artists at any stage of their career, who were born, live, or have studied in one of the historical counties of the North of England. The 2018 exhibition will show at The Bowes Museum before touring to Huddersfield Art Gallery; Bankside Gallery, London; and Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery, Carlisle.

Running alongside the New Light Prize Exhibition,  the Art for All initiative includes talks, workshops and school projects. The ever-growing New Light Collection also enables public bodies and charities to borrow the best in Northern visual arts free of charge.
